Garry Lennon's Biography
I am a Los Angeles based Costume Designer, originally from the East Coast. Recently I've worked with Cornerstone Theatre Company designing two shows: the summer institute show in Pacoima, It's All Bueno – a fast, fun retelling of Candide and Caring for the Beast directed by Shishur Kurup. I also designed Crimes of the Heart at East West Players with Leslie Ishii. And I designed the world premiere of Tom Jacobson's play, Twentieth Century Way at Boston Court. That production travelled to the NYC Fringe Festival winning a Fringe NYC Award for Overall Excellence in Production resulting in a return engagement at the Encore series.
I also worked on the original production of the Alan Menken musical, directed by Peter Schneider, Sister Act: The musical at Pasadena Playhouse and The Alliance Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. My work has been seen across the country including Mixed Blood in Minneapolis, Summer Repertory Theatre in Santa Rosa, Bard Summerscape in New York, Utah Musical Theater, Dallas Children's Theater, and the Contemporary American Theater Festival. I've received Ovation nominations for my design work on The Colony Theater's Grand Hotel and ICT's Dinah Was. I also designed the costumes for the world premiere of Paradise Lost and for the award winning Cornerstone Theater Company on the premieres of Mary Shelley's Santa Claus, Beyond the Beyond, Los Illegals and Waking Up in Lost Hills, in collaboration with community residents and professional theater artists. Internationally, I have participated twice in the Shanghai Theater Academy's Experimental Theater Festival and traveled to Seoul, designing costumes for Shim Ch'ong, a contemporary retelling of a folk tale.
I am currently the Chair of the Theatre Department and a Professor at California State University, Northridge and a member of USA Local 829.
